I mean, the alternative sounds like that fandom gets no fic/very little fic at all? I don't know how that's better when you can just scroll past any fic you don't like and they are probably enjoying writing their fic (and there might even be other people who enjoy reading it, toy never know.)

Personally, I think that having a fandom full of unreadably bad fic is worse than a fandom with no fic at all. I realize logically that others may be enjoying the fics I find unreadable and I wouldn't want to take that away from them, but on a personal level, having nothing but bad fic really spoils my experience, and I would rather have nothing at all.

This is true. I would settle for fic in a language I read at this point in one of my fandoms... Seriously thinking about learning Russian just so I have something to read that I didn't write!
