I hear ya. I wish in my fandom they'd go away and learn their craft elsewhere then come back and write good fic once they're done with the shippystuff or the ocSIstandin characters and pseudo drabbles.

Then again, I'm in one of the few major fandoms left to still have its own identity and central hub so this is probably where the shitficcers come to learn.

What's so bad about shippystuff

(Anonymous) 2017-05-20 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It is shit. It is for people who cannot plot out a real story. It is fanfic's lowest difficulty setting.

oh fuck off moron. I don't even LIKE shippy stuff but I gotta acknowledge that writing a good one has challenges.

Sounds like you really know what you're talking about here. On a fandom forum. Right.

Then I'm glad you're not in my fandom, or even some of my previous ones. I guess I've lucked out, since even though yes, there are plenty of brainless shipfics, there are some plotty ones that are absolutely stunning! So I'll just thank my lucky stars. :)

different anon, similar problem: in one of the fandoms i'm in, about 80% of new fic is yet another one-shot take on that same first kiss. same setting, same formula, nothing new happens. there's no conflict, no plot, no new take or twist or anything, it's just... bland. meh.

"one of the few major fandoms left to still have its own identity and central hub"

Do you mind naming it? I'm curious.
