You should totally adopt a bull type terrier from a municipal shelter. It sounds like you deserve it. Go do it.

Get an animatronic dog or kitty or even a parrot. If will fit your lifestyle, not get you in trouble with your landlord, and be able to move with you. Plus, no vet or feed bills, just an occasional set of batteries.

If you get a fish, be sure to get an appropriate sized tank. Even bettas need 5 gallons of filtered and heated water to really thrive.

"Even bettas need 5 gallons of filtered and heated water to really thrive."

THANK YOU FOR SAYING THIS. I once got into an argument with a friend who kept her betta in a tiny tank the size of a glass of water with no filter or heater and she said "well, in the wild they live really small shallow pools so it's fine" and "I think he's happy so whatevs". She wasn't a monster, but she was really pretty thoughtless. I pointed out that she could "survive" trapped in a space the size of a closet, but she wouldn't necessarily be happy.

We're no longer friends. Not for that specific reason, but because she was kind of self-absorbed in general.

I have a betta fish for my kids at school. He has a 14 gallon heated tank, but I don't have the filter running because when I read up on how to take care of them it said they prefer still water and filters are bad. Is that wrong? Should I be running the filter?
