Honestly OP it really doesn't sound like a great situation for an animal. :/ If you can budget for it (make sure you have enough money saved up in case you need emergency care) and have the time to care for it (especially considering: dogs aren't always great at being left home all day if you work full-time away from the house, though cats usually don't mind), maybe. But if you are honest with yourself and can't provide well for an animal, you should not get one. It's not fair for the animal. I totally understand being lonely and wanting an animal though. :(

Others' suggestions of dogwalking or volunteering are really good though! Maybe you could make some friends that way as well. (And if you have friends with animals, you can go visit them and see their animals!)
