T:SCC is one of my all time favorite shows. It had its weak spots, sure, but I can't think of any other show that felt, quite literally, like it fit into my mind/heart like a key into a lock. I think that's because, as a narrative it was wrenching, devastating, sometimes brutal, but never less than profoundly compassionate. IMO, very few shows ever find that balance, or even seem to understand that there can be a coexistence of those elements, and that they can strengthen each other rather than detracting from each other. You don't always have to go cynical to the point of nihilism in order to take your audience to a place that's unreservedly dark and violent and harsh. If a show allows its violence to be fucking heartbreaking, that's not pulling its punches, that's making it matter.

Oh, shit, heartbreaking is right. That episode with the librarian in the wheelchair. The fate of Andy Good. All of. Was just... I appreciated the positive bits very much.
