Volunteering
(Anonymous) 2017-05-22 01:06 am (UTC)(link)If so, how'd you get involved? And how the heck do you find the time??
I really want to volunteer at a few places near me, but I am having a heck of a time fitting it in my schedule. They always want people at events that are going on while I'm still at work. But my job is sucking every little bit of energy and joy out of my life, so I feel like I really need to get involved in something that will bring back some good vibes. (Also currently looking for a new job, but that is very slow going.)
Re: Volunteering
(Anonymous) 2017-05-23 12:50 am (UTC)(link)So maybe you could see if there are places of interest near you that are more dependent on volunteers to provide consistent upkeep as opposed to volunteering centered around scheduled events.
Also, if you're in the US and near a city that has a One Brick chapter (onebrick.org), that's an organization I've had some good experiences with. They set up one-time-only volunteer events with different groups, where there's no obligation beyond the shift you sign up for, with an optional get-together after the shift with the other volunteers for lunch or coffee or similar. The only caveat is that it's only as good an experience as whomever the final on-site volunteer coordinator is, which is variable -- but again, at least it's one-time-only.
