I just have zero interest in a female doctor. Doctor Who is best when it gives it's story to the companions and having the companions be women always adds a lot to the show.

We can always add in/bring back other time ladies but the Doctor can stay a man.

That... Isn't an argument against the Doctor being a woman

As the meme goes: porque no los dos?

(Anonymous) 2017-05-23 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
If you want me to actually argue against it I will say this: I have no faith in the DW writers to write a female Doctor and not make it ridiculous somehow.

Even with a change in showrunner coming up it's still going to be the same basic men writing the show and I just... can't see them pulling it off.

.......But that's arguing against the show continuing at all. The entire show is ridiculous. It contradicts itself constantly. It makes no sense. It's just meant to be fun.

NAYRT

I feel like there's a big difference between good ridiculous and bad ridiculous? Yes DW is ridiculous. It's founded on time travel and aliens and creatures that are so fucking WEIRD but they're awesome.

Not being able to write a good main female character is not the good kind of ridiculous.

Okay but you're going with the assumption that she HAS to be poorly written and there's no other choice because peanuts.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-23 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
If the choice is female Doctor or cancellation, then I'd take cancellation every time. It is the same de facto result as far as I'd be concerned.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-23 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
How are you any different from the Rose/Ten shippers who were gleefully anticipating the cancellation of Doctor Who when they changed companions?

I have no problem with people who aren't into the idea of a female doctor, and I have no problem with people who are. But the intensity with which you've set yourself against the idea is weirdly hostile. I think that's what a lot of other people in this thread are responding to as well.

I think anon above made my point for me, there are things that are ridiculous that I can accept and things that I can't. Having a female character being written badly is not something I care for.

There are already tons of things in who I could point to as things the show could have done with out, just because a show is ridiculous it doesn't mean I have to accept everything it throws at me.

But that also doesn't mean the show is a waste as a whole, most shows have good and bad things about them, there's no such thing as perfect media.

TBH I was kind of glad that Moffat didn't pick a woman to play the Doctor, because of his tendency to create female characters based on the two basic tamplates (young and innocent fap material, and older and dom-y fap material).

Yeah this discussion of a female Doctor came up a few times during Moffat's run and I think even among people who want a female Doctor it's not something they were looking for from Moffat in particular.
