I've never understood curves in the right places. I understand that curves can be convex where they're supposed to be concave and vice versa, but curves being in entirely wrong places is just really strange.

Maybe the emphasis is on the curve, rather than the place? As in, she has curves in the place there should be curves (as opposed to not having curves where the curves should be).

The phrase is overused, and annoying either way.

I thought it meant a woman has nice hips/waist/breasts, where curves in the wrong places implies she is fat? At least, this is how I've heard people use 'curves in the wrong places' before, to refer to things like belly rolls or flabby knees or something.

It's not a phrase I'm fond of, either way.

Right places: boobs, hips, butt, nicely shaped legs
Wrong places: stomach, bulging neck wattles, mystery lumps
