I get that someone might feel distressed if they feel out of step with what 'everyone else' seems to be feeling - i.e. anxious that they are are not empathetic enough. However, the irony of this situation is that if these used a bit of empathetic skills when thinking about why other people are acting this way, they might quickly realise that it's just that r\different people have different emotional connections to different things and that's okay. Anxiety completely alleviated!

Personal example: I was pretty sad when I heard that Bowie and Alan Rickman had died, because I really like both of their bodies of work. I was surprisingly gutted over Robin Williams' death - didn't quite realise how much of my childhood he figured in. I had no deep emotional reaction when I heard that Chris Cornell died, because I don't know his music at all. However, because I know how I felt about previous celebrity's deaths, know how it can feel to be really emotionally connected to music and also vaguely understand how big a presence Cornell was in the 90s grunge scene which was the background to a lot of people's formative years, I totally get how Cornell's death might be a huge emotional blow to his fans. I reacted differently to many other people and yet didn't feel the need to post a secret about it... crazy huh?
