(Anonymous) 2017-05-26 08:04 am (UTC)(link)Personal example: I was pretty sad when I heard that Bowie and Alan Rickman had died, because I really like both of their bodies of work. I was surprisingly gutted over Robin Williams' death - didn't quite realise how much of my childhood he figured in. I had no deep emotional reaction when I heard that Chris Cornell died, because I don't know his music at all. However, because I know how I felt about previous celebrity's deaths, know how it can feel to be really emotionally connected to music and also vaguely understand how big a presence Cornell was in the 90s grunge scene which was the background to a lot of people's formative years, I totally get how Cornell's death might be a huge emotional blow to his fans. I reacted differently to many other people and yet didn't feel the need to post a secret about it... crazy huh?

Not that there's anything wrong with not feeling something over a celeb death; I just didn't really get how this was a "secret" (outside of making personal statements). It's just like "Um, okay. And?" Probably just be me though.
