I still find that pretty pathetic. I get certain things can symbolize something for you, but you don't really have a right to say you are devastated over the death of someone you did not know even if you were the "number one fan". And if you are devastated, that's ridiculously unhealthy. It's disrespectful to act like this person was someone you had a personal relationship with or that you are experiencing any real loss. It's one thing to be sad that someone who has represented a lot to you has died. But to go into mourning is really messed up.

Of course it's not on the same level as losing a friend/family member, but really? Even if someone didn't know the person on a personal level, isn't it sort of natural to be upset if someone whose work meant a lot to them/got them through a difficult time passes away?

Idk what 'going into mourning' would consist of but personally I didn't have control over how deeply I felt about Bowie's death, because they were real emotions. I didn't see any evidence that his family found it disrespectful, quite the contrary.
