I don't think so. Because it minimizes the threat. It makes them out to be just silly, not something dangerous that is killing and hurting people.

I agree, but given that their goal is to be terrifying, I'm OK with taking the fear away. It doest make them less dangerous, but then neither does being terrified of them.

Its the Mel Brooks / Hitler thing.

There's a saying that the key to humor is tragedy plus time. I don't think there's been enough time to make calling the Manchester bomber seem silly. All the dead kids makes it difficult to effectively minimize. Trying to do so just looks disingenuous or clueless.

If we're talkinb humour, I get that, tragedy plus time and all, I don't necessarily agree in all cases tho, subversion of expectations is a decent method too, and in that case a shocking joke about a current tragedy can illicit a cheap reactionary laugh, a release of tension type thing. I get where your coming from, but if were talking straight humour it doesn't always have to be tragedy plus time.

However I dont thing this would count as a straight humour example. This isn't a "Let's make people laugh to help them or myself cope" case. This is a "Let's not do these people the kindness of seeing them in the terms they want to be seen in" They want to be seen as a terrifying force, I say no, let them be seen as Imbecile's. They want to be batman, but we're going to frame them as plastic man.
