This is completely normal. That said, I do have one tip for making baked goods look nice - though you may be doing it already; it's not exactly top secret and some recipes even include it in the instructions. The tip is, if you're baking something with chocolate chips or other ingredients that you bake into your thing in pieces, always keep a little bit of that ingredient to sprinkle on or press into the top of your thing before you bake it. I pretty much guarantee that every food blogger does this, which is how all of their cookies/loaves/muffins look perfectly dotted with chips or M&M's or raisins or blueberries or w/e. That shit doesn't just magically rise to the top for them because they're so good at baking. :P
