I disagree.

His element is illusion and he changes to look like Sora. It's perfectly possible that he's shapeshifting. We don't really know - canon hasn't exactly proved that he does or doesn't. LITERALLY, shapeshifting is changing into the form of something else, so yeah.

I'm tempted to say the Creeper Nobodies are his. They shapeshift, too.

Er, actually, if you look at the manga, he creates a illusion. He doesn't shapeshift at all.

Yeah, but the manga also makes him die and turn into a fucking radish at Riku's hands :P I just cannot take the manga as credible canon at all, sorry.

And frankly, what's to say the "illusion" wasn't just Zexion underneath the shapeshift facade? I don't really believe this shapeshifter thing, but it's perfectly possible that it is.

Yess!! Have you seen the book and trailer yet? I can't wait to see what that book is about - I'm betting it's notes or demon arts or something. If he does illusions and mind manipulation, I'd bet he'd keep information on everyone and everything he came in contact with, for later reference. Because it'd suck to have an illusion fall through the roof just because it didn't look right.

XD That reminds me of someone from Magister Negi Magi. He had a book he kept on people and could 'transform' himself into 'them' for a limited period of time.

I dunno that series, but that sounds pretty awesome. I was hoping for a more conventional weapon - bow and arrow or something fun and unique to KH or something - but a book is really, really neat.

I haven't had a chance yet, but as soon as I have the time, I'm going to Merlin's Tower to check out the books there. I recall Merlin saying something about books, and the books on his shelves..

illusion =/= shapeshifting.

I dunno, frankly, Zexion using illusions to shapeshift? It can work.

Shapeshift implies that the change is physical though. Zexion doesn't actually turn into the person, he simply creates a false image that's possible to see through. Then again, because of RE:CoM and KH2:FM+, as you said, we'll see the true extent of his powers.

Though I guess I see the poster's point, it's just more of a terminology issue than anything else.

Are we talking manga or the game, though? I tend to take the game more seriously than the manga - and, opposed to the manga's "split screen" Zexion-with-a-stick and Sora-with-a-keyblade, didn't the game just have them as one entity, and "Sora" changing back into Zexion? I mean, it's kind of hard to tell, as it's mostly an interpretation thing, but I still say shapeshifter wouldn't be wrong.

Well, even in the game, Riku "saw" through Zexion. if Zexion had physically changed into Sora, I don't think it would have been possible (unless we're talking metaphysical and Riku could see into Zexion's soul or something like that), not to mention Zexion's illusion completely lost effect once Riku realized it was untrue. If he had been a true shapeshifter, Zexion could have fought back then, but he just... put down the ilusion and ran off in the GBA version (but then he fights back in RE:CoM? BAH. AND THEN HE HAS A BOOK IN KH2:FM+. MAKE UP YOUR MIND, ZEXION, YOU CHANGE WEAPONS MORE THAN A WOMAN CHANGES SHOES). I dunno, I just think it was more of an illusion that disorted the truth than the actual changing of his physical form. XD

of course, Riku also sliced through Zexion so I doubt even a true shapeshifter would be able to hold their shape after getting a sword through the gut.

shapeshifting is generally known as changing the actual physical properties of something, while an illusion is something that teases the senses. a distortion of perception, if you will. there's no real physical change happening.
