There's a pretty central distinction between agricultural laborers and the class that owns the actual land.

It's his job title, like stable boy or cabin boy.

She's from the farm owner's family. That is top of the social heap. He's a farmhand, which puts him lower on the social ladder than the livestock he tends to.

See, the closer you are to the bottom of the heap the more distinct the social stratification are. It is how Trump won the election. He understood that the farm owners were worried that their distinctiveness over the farm hands was being eroded and promised to stop it.

Metaphorically speaking, and to a certain extent, sure.

Anytime someone says something about THIS IS THE REASON TRUMP WON I get real skeptical real quick.

DA. Y'know no matter where i go lately in fandom for the past few months, a lot of conversations turn into something about Trump.

i know why, but for me, I'm not used to seeing politics so prevalent in my fandoms.

You got no romance in your soul.

They look like siblings. Come to think of it, they would've made a great Cersei and Jaime Lannister...

... Are you saying your siblings are nutting on the reg?

(Anonymous) 2017-05-27 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
No I'm saying that these two characters who have a romantic relationship in The Princess Bride look related. They are also blonde and very beautiful. Thus: Lannisters.

Damn, I cannot make a joke land tonight.

Just trying to be funny because it was ambiguous which "They" you meant.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-28 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
I think it didn't land because they didn't say "they look like my siblings", they said "they look like siblings". :P

Damn it your right. I totally misread that comment.

She was slumming?

It's been a while, but in the book, I believe she is described as objectively the most beautiful woman in existence. I think that "fact" goes a long way to explain why Wesley falls for her.

Also, he knew she was putting on airs to cover her feelings for him. Which OP seems to have missed in their butthurt over the insult to Westley. And then, of course, it turned to outright flirting. "Fetch me that pot" that's a foot away from me. That sort of thing.

Guys tend not to mind bitchiness if the woman is hot. It pisses me off.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-28 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
Girls tend to overlook a lot of douchey behaviour if a guy is hot too. Pretty sure 'pretty' trumps a lot of things for a lot of people, regardless of sex.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-27 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
On top of what other comments have pointed out, wasn't it part of the point that they were both kind of... assholes who deserved each other? That was lost on me too when I was little, but it seems really clear to me now.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-28 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
I'm always weirded out by people who idolize their relationship and want one like it. I mean, it's a great movie, but I'm so glad I only saw it like twice as a kid, because seeing it as an adult I was like "wow, they're assholes."

(Anonymous) 2017-05-28 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
I never idealized it, though I love the movie, but what did Wesley do that was asshole...ish?

And Buttercup was kind of bitchy in a whole 'I like you, so I'm going to see what I can get away with' sort of way in the beginning, but she legit seemed to love him, especially considering since she waited even after she thought he was dead AND was going to kill herself rather than stay married/be with Humperdink.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-28 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
DA, but IIRC he kinda gave her shit as Dread Pirate Robert for the whole "thinking he was dead" bit because she... should've known he was alive thanks to true love? Something like it.

Though it did lead to her basically going "fuck you" and pushing the supposed most dangerous man ever down a hill so I can't be too mad.

I like Wesley too, but didn't he raise his hand to her or something like that? Over saying something that touched a nerve for him.

Not that he was gonna actually hit her, but still a dick move.
