I dunno, every horror movie I've seen makes a point of killing the ones that claim to be genre savvy in a gruesome and ironic manner just to prove a point. I don't think working out something bad is going on and trying to run is a horror movie survivor attribute.

That only works in movies that are parodying the genre. In regular horror movies that is a fast track to a grizzly death so the actual protagonists take the threat seriously and learn how screwed they are. At best you just get an offscreen death.

In SotD the guys you are describing is not the capable group Sean's gang runs into. You would be part of Sean's gang, probably Dylan Moran's character.
