But the main thing I've seen people accusing the mangaka of/cite as the reason for their threats and suicide suggestions is "homophobia", not "but she abused him". And even though that's a terrible trope, it's still not a reason to threaten a creator over.
(Though I have to admit I'm not in the fandom, but I've seen quite a few tweets and it's pretty nasty.)

I suppose it comes down to how it's played. If he gets up and rubs his head grumbling about the crazy woman, I'd say it's typical tsundere stuff. If he doesn't get up and starts bleeding out his ears, or we see him later weeping about it, it's played as abuse and fucked up - although even then not the worse relationship Canon in anime.
All that aside I don't seem to be seeing anyone complain about that element so much as the "They sunk my ship, and I those homophobes!" element.
