Well, I guess that's the part I'm not quite getting

(Anonymous) 2017-05-30 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
What's not to get? You think you only can ship a relationship that fits your sexual orientation? Shipping is about liking the dynamics between two characters.

Are we talking about shipping or porn here? I guess my mind was kind of at porn rather than shipping, my apologies if that was an incorrect mindset

Also, there's a difference between shipping things, and being a member of a fandom specifically devoted to shipping m/m stuff? Like, at the point where you're identifying yourself on the basis of liking m/m stories generally, that's something distinct from shipping things that are m/m. And that's not wrong obviously, but

NAYRT There's a lot of yaoi manga out there that's pretty pornographic, but not all manga featuring m/m relationships is like that. A good chunk of it is pretty PG, though I've seen people refer to the tamer stuff as BL and the harder stuff as yaoi. A guy who's into the genre may just love reading about the relationships and analyzing the subtext or they may just be into it for the porn because it's hot. Or maybe they're into both.

NAYRT but I think that's maybe a big point here. A lot of BL isn't pornographic at all and doesn't go beyond kissing. So essentially, what it is is a love story told in a stereotypically "feminine" way (as they are usually written by women, for women). I'm guessing a lot of these guys are just interested in this type of romance story, with all of its romantic tropes and such. Not a lot of romance is targeted toward men in general, and there could just be a lot of guys who genuinely like that stuff, and maybe for some reason the BL stuff resonates more than the shoujo romance.

I've stumbled upon places on the internet full of straight guys fantasizing about sucking cock. So I can see this, actually.

Raise your hand if you immediately thought of Cockrub Warriors:
