Piper has gotten better to me in recent seasons mainly because now she's just ridiculous.

There are also other characters on the show I'd say are far worse then her, some of the newer guards and Larry was the worst when he was still on.

I've never understood this. It seems to be a fairly popular opinion, but whenever people describe all the things they dislike about her I end up feeling like their description fits almost every other character on the show more than it fits her. The main criticism seems to be that she's selfish and self-involved, which I find odd. To me, most of the other characters are more selfish and self-involved, they're just much less insecure and apologetic about being that way than Piper is.

I've only seen up to mid S3, but Piper was my favorite character throughout the first two seasons (especially S1), and by far the character I found most relatable. (Though I was really disappointed in Piper after what she did to Alex at the end of S2.)

DA I didn't like Piper in the first season but I honestly wouldn't say she's any worse then some of the other characters on OITNB. Especially when you take into account the sadistic guard characters who have only gotten worse in recent seasons and aren't even amusing in a "loveable villain" sort of way.

Piper can be annoying and problematic but there are other characters who go way farther then she does.

I agree 100%. Piper is objectively less terrible than almost every other character. She's not nice, sure, but she's also not all that horrible.

I agree she's not as interesting, but that's because she's relatively normal. The others are just more flashy and magnetic, most of them feel more like comic book characters than real people, they're so exaggerated. If anything, Piper was intentionally played straight from the beginning for that deliberate contrast, and to play up the ~she doesn't belong here~ plot point. So her being boring by comparison maybe made her negative traits more noticeable since there's nothing to particularly like about her, either.

Personally, I started to feel the show was really dragging, spinning around so many plots but not really progressing anywhere with most of them. And confusingly enough Piper, who is supposed to be the protagonist, had the plot that dragged the most. I can't even remember what she did last season besides try (and immediately fail) to become a gang leader. Maybe it was the glaring lack of her husband/fiance/boyfriend/whatever?
