Re: What show has a main character that is the least likeable of all the characters?

I really liked early Naruto, honestly. Just a dumbass kid with a loud mouth and big dreams who managed to say or do the right thing every now and then and the rest of the time was just fumbling around, looking for validation.

I despise Shippuden for what it did to Naruto and to other character. But what it did to Naruto really weakened the whole series. Making Naruto's way of the ninja magically inspire people when he was still a stupid as fuck genin and all his peers had climbed the ranks properly... Naruto lost all of his inventiveness and became a one-trick pony after spending years on a wandering field trip. Bah.

Actually I kind of agree with you now that I think about it. The main reason I said he got better in shippuden was because there was less of his obnoxious schtick happening, but it's true that it's also when he got very one note and started to magically inspire everyone for reasons that made no fucking sense to me.

Naruto got on my nerves in the first series but at least the other characters acknowledged how obnoxious he was and I think one leg up the first series had was that he was a major fuck up and had to actually work hard and rely on others in battle. In shippuden he got entirely too overpowered and it all too often became "wait for Naruto to save us."

I'd rather have a character who stumbles sometimes and really needs others, in shippuden Naruto was big talk about needing other people but most of the time it felt fake because he had every fucking power by the end.
