Re: What show has a main character that is the least likeable of all the characters?
(Anonymous) 2017-05-31 03:58 am (UTC)(link)I think this was at least partially intentional. The creator has said (I think it was on one of the DVD audio commentaries) that one of the most challenging things about the show was that he was constantly having to put out reminders in the the writer's room NOT to write for and to Chriton. Because there was this automatic mentality that Chriton, being both human and also a white male*, was The Lead, and people tended to gravitate towards writing everything around him. But that was never what O'Bannon and Henson had in mind for the show. So he'd end up being like, "No, Chriton can't do that in this episode because Zhaan/Aeryn/Pilot/whoever is the most important character in this episode. This is about them."
*I can't recall if O'Bannon said this "white male" bit, I may just be adding that in myself. But let's be real here, if Chriton were a black woman, the writers probably would have defaulted to writing for either D'Argo or Aeryn. :/
