It's self-irony/the same type of self-depriciation like when people say "I'm *enter ship or fandom here* -trash". You can like it or not, but its definitely not this evil Japanese anti-LGBT sentiment you seem to see in it.

I also heard that they use it as out of respect for LGBT people in that they only fantasize about slash and don't fetishize actual LGBT people. In my experience with fujoshi, they are not trying to be edgy or anything.

LMAO no. The word fujoshi has nothing to do with respecting LGBT people. It's the opposite. It was coined as an insult because girls with sex drives are gross and guys who fuck other guys are gross so girls whose sex drives focus on guys fucking other guys are double gross. Most girls who like BL and other male/male fiction while respecting real LGBT people avoid reclaiming the fujoshi label for that reason.

Oh please, that's not the case at all. BL storylines are all about "pure love" (actual term), love that is beyond gender. While it's not speaking much to LGBT representation, BL fans don't think BL is "gross". By the way, I'm a gay fujoshi and I love the term, it's hilarious.

AYRT

Well you certainly are reading a lot into my comment. Nevertheless, I'm glad it's meant ironically. Seen only through the view of Google translate that is not immediately apparent.
