"child coded" is one of those phrases that takes me from normal to filled with rage in like 0.5 seconds. It's one of the most fucking obnoxious moronic disgustingly willfully obtuse pieces of pure bullshit garbage that any jackass deliberately manufacturing pointless fake outrage has ever invented.

Honestly, I would say it is a thing that exists: http://awkwardzombie.com/index.php?page=0&comic=040813 It's just super easy to abuse when you want to bludgeon someone.

I can agree that there are gross shows/comics/etc which try to pretend that they aren't being pedo-ish by insisting that the character which looks to be 9 years old is toootally actually like 500 and just so happens to look like a heavily sexualized 9 year old by some magical strange coincidence, but that isn't the same thing as the friggin' dumbass fools who go around screaming that some character who is legitimately, like, 25 years old in canon, and looks it, and acts it, is ~*~child coded~*~ and therefore anyone who ships them with someone else is A PEDOOOOOO. I've never, ever, ever seen anyone apply "child coded" to a character who is "really an ancient mage who just happens somehow to look like an 11 year old dressed like a $45 hooker." I've only seen the term used by jackasses who are pissy that someone is shipping something they don't like or who are just desperate to be More Social Justicey Than Thou about something and can't find a legit thing to focus on.

It's the refusing to look at real social justice issues part that gets on my tits.

DA Yeah it definitely exists and I've seen a lot of anime and video games be guilty of it.

I don't harass people about it but I kind of wish I could tell anime studios to STOP IT. I don't want to see a ship where the guy looks 30 and the girl looks 9, I don't care if she's supposed to be 200 or whatever.

Dance in the Vampire Bund was a cool vampire show if you could look past the loli. Unfortunately that was trying to look past the sun at high noon. Bleh.

I wouldn't mind if it was kept as it's original thing, but it's like the 'trap' discussion that happened a week or so ago, insisting that trap is ok because it originally meant pretty male characters and to ignore all the times it gets used to hurt trans women is kind of ridiculous.

I mean I'd be fine with Flourite being "old coded" because odds are good she's younger than the others (even if the gems in her may be older) but I doubt the 'granny fucker' accusation is getting thrown around at people who support polyam gram gram.
