Uh...I thought the new X-Files was received very well?

Most of the critical reviews I saw varied greatly from episode to episode. A couple of episodes got solidly positive reviews, a couple got absolutely trashed, and the rest were generally regarded as ok/not bad/could be worse.

However, the vast majority of fans (fandom-level fans) loathe the revival. I was deeply into the XF fandom for like six years, and every single one of my friends in the fandom expressed some variant of "I wish I'd never watched this and could just forget its existence entirely."

As a major X Files fan, who has up to season six on dvd (IMO before it really started going downhill) and who rewatches every so often (in fact put some on the other day), yes, the new season sucked. There was only one episode that was great- the one by writer Darrin Morgan- who wrote some of my fave X Files eps back in the day.

As for Twin Peaks, I'm scared to watch too. Also, I hated how the first one ended. I feel like it completely screwed over Cooper, who was such an awesome character.

In that case you might actually enjoy the new series.

I don't know how the critics felt, but as an X-Files fan from way back, I found the revival really underwhelming.

I think the general attitude was that it was nice to have Mulder and Scully back - like, there was definitely a sense that it was Real X-Files, people accepted it on that level. But as X-Files episodes go, they weren't very good episodes. On the whole.
