I have some sympathy for people who get preachy about drinking because it's possible someone they care about is or was an alcoholic and they've seen alcohol ruin someone they love and figure it's inherently evil and must be avoided entirely (personally, I've never met a recovering alcoholic - or someone who has to abstain for medical reasons - who gets on people's case about drinking, they just quietly avoid it).
