Yeah I think that is missing the point

(Anonymous) 2017-06-03 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
OP already knows that, dude.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-03 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Is that Daisy Ridley?

(Anonymous) 2017-06-03 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it's Sheryl Lee out of Twin Peaks

Daisy Ridley wasn't even born when the original run of Twin Peaks aired

SA

Ah, thanks. The resemblance is uncanny though, at least to me.

... in a "conventionally attractive white woman smiling" kind of way, I guess.

I don't know, man. "A ghost did it" its a pretty unique.

Isn't Bob a demon?

(Anonymous) 2017-06-03 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
For me that's when Twin peaks got interesting, when you got more into the weird and supernatural aspect.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-03 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I think what made it so special was how well it integrated the weird supernatural stuff in with the Americana, and the small town stuff, and the true crime stuff, and the soap opera stuff.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-03 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree! Those are some genre and tonal changes that can't always be pulled off but Twin Peaks somehow did it and made for a very unique show.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-03 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
IMO it's also why it's such a deeply influential show, because it showed how much room there was for embedding soap opera-like structures into other genres, and how much you could do with it.

Yeah it's honestly amazing to me how many modern shows take from Twin Peaks, even before talks of the revival I feel like I was always seeing nods to it on television.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-04 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
No, it was awesome! So awesome that the show declined rapidly (except for the terrifying final episode) once the mystery was solved. I'm glad the new season is dealing with that storyline again.

Wow... really? Between the supernatural/possession aspects and the child abuse? I've seen Laura's murder described a lot of ways, but never once as "uninteresting."

Just curious, OP, have you seen the TP movie, Fire Walk With Me? Because the only way I could ever conceivably have the same reaction as you would be if I hadn't seen that movie. It portrays it in much more detail and is basically nightmares put onto film.

I'm not sure if you mean the actual method or who did it - I think actually the point *is* that it was her father. (Arguably without knowledge - FWWM strongly suggests he at least partly had agency though.) That's where most terrible things in the world happen: in the family, behind closed doors.

Obviously the crazy owl demon factor isn't really mundane though.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-04 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? It was one of the most interesting aspects of the show to me.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-07 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
The problem was that Lynch never planned to reveal the culprit for the murder, but ended up bowing to pressure from studio execs. Which I think explains a LOT.
