There's no such thing as heavy handed when it comes to political discourse. When it comes to written fiction or TV/movies? Er, yes, you can be too heavy handed.

"He's warning the slave shipment of what is to come, he's got to reference our shittiness."

And he does, at first. Warning the men about slavery and what their lives will be like as slaves makes sense. But tell me, do those guys know what "the police" are? Probably not.

When I was young ... I was a huge fan xD.
I fail to remember book part as not my favourite part but it depends where from the shipped people were. If I recall, British used this term for various outfits and if it was one of those colonies it could have been that. However, since time and space is wonky there it was probably failing on script side. To be fair, this book confused me on timeline so could be IC.
