I realize this is going to sound super naive and/or stupid, but...I wasn't expecting Light to have such a God complex?

I know. I know how that sounds. I understand the premise, but in practice, I just could not stand him. I hated him so much that I just never bothered continuing on.

I liked the shinigami, both the character & the character design, but I hated Light and L didn't grab me, so I decided it wasn't for me.

I love the series, but I totally get it. I would have preferred a much more gradual change for Light. It reminds me of something I saw on tumblr:

light yagami episode 1: but if i kill this criminal, wouldn't that make me just as bad??
light yagami episode 2: i am prepared to kill my entire family
