Re: What series did you expect to love but ended up hating?

Kill la kill has an extremely twisted sense of humor but the underlying plot is really good (albeit also extremely weird.)

Don't ask me how I endured it's sense of humor though when I don't find that stuff funny, maybe because I enjoy the art style and eventually the plot did catch me.

i gave it 4 episodes i think? like i was willing to ignore the father perving on an unconscious school girl once, but when it became a reoccuring joke i noped out. not funny. if you're trying to be a parody, don't play the tropes straight.

Yeah the plot gets interesting later then episode 4 but I wouldn't recommend going back to it if you couldn't tolerate those jokes because they are essentially all throughout the series.

It's a shame because the plot is actually very solidly structured and they had quite a few good twists, but I can't really recommend the show to people unless perverted anime humor is their taste (or if like me they can tolerate it.)

i actually thought it was pretty interesting, even if a bit hyperactive (the first episode gave me a metaphorical headache. like sheesh, calm your tits for a second (literally))

and i mean, hyperactive for an anime is GOOD, how many of them slog along at a snail's pace? and the visuals were seriously cool.

i think my problem was that it was kind of sold to me as this subversion of the tropes and it was kind of... not. it just served the tropes with an ironic wink, which is not enough for me.

It actually does subvert tropes but you have to get later into the plot to get there, in the beginning it starts off very standard but it's set up so you get a bit comfortable with how the plot is going and then all of a sudden the twists start.

And lol I had the same issue with the first episode, I had to get used to the style.
