IIRC the Tawny Man trilogy really turns the character of Fitz from sympathetic protagonist to someone you resent for his stupid decisions. It's deliberate, but I didn't care for it, either. I think the whole trilogy IS worth finishing, though. Hobb also has a third trilogy out now that's a continuation of that series but I haven't read it yet.
