Well, meeting someone randomly without trying worked for them, but it hasn't worked for you, has it? That's why your acquaintances are suggesting go put in a bit more effort. You don't have to be an expert to see that avoiding one of the main strategies people use nowadays for finding a partner is going to hurt your chances of finding a partner. Maybe you're being a little hasty in pooh-poohing other approaches.

If and only if you want to try this stuff out, see if you can Google how to take a better selfie. It can't hurt to Google how to effectively use social media to land a decent date as well.

If that doesn't seem to be your bag, please try hard to hang out with folks that share your interests. Go out maybe once a week to try something new. Even if you don't encounter a prospective date on your weekly outing, it will make you a better conversationalist if and when you do happen to find someone appealing enough to date.

No, really.

Sometimes people have too much on their plate to emotionally deal with their local social scene. Too much stress, schoolwork, family obligations, you name it, can all put a damper on your need to socialize even when only friendships are involved.

Be kind to yourself now, so maybe when your stress levels drop, you can start dating later.
