Call out culture is not why we have Trump

(Anonymous) 2017-06-05 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure it is. And I'm calling you guys out over it. You were too busy screaming "TONE ARGUMENT" in people's faces to consider why we have a tone argument. Instead of gently easing the mundanes into new ways of thinking by reassuring their fragile egos, you call out culture types deliberately riled them up and humiliated them, somehow thinking you had the numbers to dominate them and that they wouldn't dare punch back. Well they did, just as expected, they marched into voting booths and exacted their revenge. Well fucking Done. Now stop trying to be so divsive and dominant and get with the program. You don't have to stop fighting for change, you just have to start fighting smart so you aren't pissing off the folks you need to win over.

No, I understand that you have a bee in your bonnet, that's not the point I'm making

But you being annoyed at people on Tumblr is not why Trump won

Tumblrinas taking tumblr drama into the real world and insulting regular voters, and handing the alt!right the perfect campaign issue, is exactly why we have Trump. Stop trying to duck the ugly consequences of your sordid little call out culture failures.

You're just vastly overstating the impact of your personal grievances, anon. No matter how angry you are, it's not going to change the fact that none of this is why Hillary lost or Trump won. No matter how strongly you feel, it's not going to overwrite reality.

I'm sorry about whatever happened to you on Tumblr to get you this mad, though. Truly I am.

DA
I agree that it's not the only reason but the way people on the liberal left were behaving (including some of the things ayrt mentioned) did definitely play an important role in it. It's happening in other countries as well: instead of trying to take the concerns of people seriously (no matter how far fetched and wrong they are) and find some solutions, those worries get brushed aside and the people who have those concerns get called bigots, no matter if their views are actually bigoted or simply misguided. And this is what makes those people turn to the groups they feel take them seriously.

The vast majority of voters on either side, (and probably more on Trump's given the demographics I've seen), do not know about Tumblr or the terms taken and misused from academic sociological criticism that Tumblr uses. If you said 'tone argument' to most people on the planet they wouldn't know wtf you were talking about.

B+ trolling, got a little too over the top with mundanes and normies though.

the part that really threw me was "instead of...reassuring their fragile egos"
