I'm guessing it was the heat. When I get kidney stones, painkillers don't work. (At least ones I can get at home. The one in the IV from the hospital especially made for kidney stone pain works wonders.) What works (somewhat) is heating pads and hot showers.

Kidney stones suck, and I'm sorry you had to go through them.
