Wait, this is Pokemon? Where they send 10-year-olds out in the wilderness armed only with a Pikachu? Tell me more!

Heavy Sun and Moon spoilers

The woman on the left is Delia, Ash's mom from the show. To the right is Lusamine, head of the Aether Foundation.

Over the course of the game, Lusamine is introduced as a kindly woman who runs a pokemon preserve, but once a weird space jellyfish cuts through the fabric of space right in front of her, she starts getting...creepily obsessive over it, saying she'll make it love her.

As it turns out, she's encountered a beast like it before. It took her husband. After this she went wild, keeping her public persona calm and loving but all the while becoming increasingly abusive towards her two children, to the point where both of them ran away (they're 13 and 11). Oh yeah, and when they ran away, they took a rare pokemon with them. Her son took an experimental creature that had been created by the Foundation as a "beast killer", and her daughter took a strange little thing that Lusamine planned on using to open that barrier to where the space creatures live.

Even more spoilers, Lusamine ends up opening that barrier anyway and you have to fight her...only she merges with the space jellyfish and straight up tries to murder her daughter.

It's really fucked up.

Delia (left) is the mom of Ash, the protagonist of the anime. She rarely shows up, but every time she does, she's been very supportive of her son.

SPOILERS BELOW FOR THE PLOT OF SUN AND MOON

Lusamine (right) is the mom of Lillie and Gladion from the Sun and Moon games (she also exists in the anime but we don't know what she's like in that yet). She treated her kids like shit, to the point Gladion left with one of her lab's experimental Pokemon and Lillie ran away with a Pokemon her mother was abusing in an attempt to find another Pokemon she sought after. It's implied the reason she's so awful is due to the grief of losing her husband (who is alive, but seems to have amnesia and is on an island only the player can reach) and going insane from the Pokemon she's looking for (its influence does that to people).

Near the climax of the game, Lusamine tells her daughter she's ugly/worthless/useless, and prior to that, she made Lillie wear an outfit that resembles the Pokemon Lusamine is obsessed with. Needless to say she is not happy Lillie finally learns to stand up to her. She seems to get better once you beat the game, as she and Lillie move to Kanto so Lusamine can recover and Lillie can go on her own adventure.
