110. Don't be. It was lame. This isn't just my opinion, this is...well, pretty much everyone I've ever spoken to, saying the same thing. Prom's overrated.

142. Speaking as someone with two severely OCD-afflicted friends, Monk does a pretty good job of portraying it for the most part. Most often writers ignore the mental anguish and all the worrying that comes with it, though. I guess that doesn't make for good entertainment.

142. I've only watched an episode or two of Monk, but, as someone with OCD, I thought it was absolutely horrid. Maybe it just happened in the particular ones I saw, but they played up his OCD for laughs, as someone might with a clumsy or stupid character. Physical comedy, nearly.

IDK if you read many web comics, but I'm also prone to feeling a bit huffy over the character of Hannelore in Questionable Content. Again, her fears are presented as comedic. However, the creator Jeff, if I remember correctly, has OCD as well, so perhaps his experience is just different than mine. Maybe I am too uptight and need to learn to laugh at myself. Still, even though I am now in a stable enough position to realize that many of my old fears were really quite laughable and absurd... they don't strike me as entertaining. Rather, they're a source of shame, an irrational anomaly I've got to hide that doesn't jive with my bookish, studently ways.

I guess you are right in saying that the drawn out, continueing anguish doesn't make for good TV, but hell, I'd really like for somebody to try.

Oh, don't get me wrong--they definitely play it up for comedy most of the time, but there have been episodes in which he's shown going through a lot of pain due to his OCD. I don't watch it much, so I can't point out a particular episode, but it has happened.

I don't read webcomics much, but it does seems that, like with other personality-related disorders, everyone's experience varies. I know three people with depression, for instance, that are all diagnosed with the same type yet are so completely different and approach it so uniquely from one another that you almost wouldn't believe they had the same thing. I'm glad to see that you've gotten over the worst of it, however, since it seems to be truly unbearable. That's something to be proud of!

Honestly, I think that sort of subject matter would be best for a movie, since a television series with too much inner dialog/angst doesn't tend to make it very far unless it's a soap opera. I could swear there's been a movie in the past that focused on OCD, but damned if I can't think of it.
