Big cast with popular actors means lots of shipping possibilities, is my guess.

Other that Leonardo DiCaprio were any of the other actors that popular? They were somewhat known but I'd not call any of them a box office draw.

Certainly all nice to look at, though!

NAYRT

I don't think any of them were Leo DiCaprio-level superstars. But then again, very few people are. And (for instance Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Ellen Page are all very very well known and big stars that people really like a lot. It was a really strong cast.

Eh, I thought Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have fannish (if not box office) followings?

Now they do. The only 'big' roles Tom Hardy did before Inception were Rocknrolla and Bronson. Both have a cult following but I'd not call them mainstream movies.

Not sure about JGL.

That's right, wasn't Arthur/Eames the big ship in that fandom? I remember being confused because neither of those characters made a big impression on me.

They both have really interesting vibes as actors and I feel like that particular ship was like lightning in a bottle in that regard
