I don't particularly care that Radiohead are playing Israel

A few of my friends and a good portion of the fandom have very strong opinions on this matter

Usually I'm better about critically enjoying artists and their output

But I don't want to get involved in wank that will just exhaust my limited mental resources and threaten to ruin my relationship with a band I've loved for a decade

Or maybe I'm just a victim of blind adoration and won't admit it to myself

People are mad about that? Why?! Surely they realize that a nation's people aren't their government. A lot of Israeli citizens openly oppose their government's actions. Why should they be punished?

There's an argument to be made that boycotting a country can be an effective tool to help end the policies and actions in question.

The big example to engage with here is going to be South Africa and apartheid.

The big difference between Israel and SA was that the White SA'ians knew and admitted they were conducting an atrocity throughout the apartheid era. They were racists and they owned that shit. Most Israelis still refuse to admit their government is doing anything wrong and that their cultural norms are based on deliberately inflicting harm. They are still stuck in the circular reasoning of "that is a bad thing, but we aren't bad people, so we cannot be doing that as only bad people do so", with the added complication that they don't want to admit that it is disturbingly close to what is euphemistically called "the German Policy" and they define themselves as victims of that policy and can't or won't bring themselves to think of themselves as perpetrators of anything similar to it.

Until that self-delusion can be broken there is never going to be progress on Israel.

Settlers are evil, and the govt that panders to them is evil, and the people who vote for that govt because it makes their dicks feel big are evil, and the soldiers who enforce that evil are evil, the ones who send some money over for the lads are evil not caring who that money is going to blow up or push off their land for settler homestead are evil, those (mainly Evangelical Christians) who send money over for the lads knowing it is going to shoot and dispossess people and see that as a positive are really fucking evil, the unthinking citizens who enjoy the "benefits" of Israeli society are not evil but they sure are not blameless either.

Your dissenting Israeli, the ones who stand up and be counted, they are pretty darn good though. Its not about a faith, it is about Israeli government policy. Jews of all nations who just get on with living in those nations and don't give a rats ass about Israel, they are completely blameless too. Being a Jew has nothing to do with Israel unless they choose to make it so. If they don't care enough about Israel to care about it, that is 100% okay because being a Jew doesn't mean they have to. So evil Jews? Nah. Evil Israeli government policy and those of all creeds who support that evil, yah.
