I've heard of the Bartimaeus Trilogy but I know nothing about it. The mention of humor and footnotes is tempting me though.

The footnotes reminded me of Pratchett the first time I read it. The humour is much less adult but still pretty witty and funny. My favourite is the second book though.

You should definitely try it if you like fantasy and humour!

I thought about recommending it for the book club but one of the anons was complaining about all the fantasy books, so I thought I'd do it next time.
