Well, first of all, I agree that globalization of labor does lead to decreases in the wages of Western workers - when they are doing the same jobs as non-Western workers. I think that's an extremely important caveat, and because of that caveat I think it's inaccurate to characterize the change as "de-enriching the Western workforce". But, yes, I agree that the effect you're talking about exists in some sense.

My broader point is that I think emphasizing the role of Asian laborers as the central point of globalization is an incorrect analysis because it's a much broader phenomenon than that. And when you're talking about new gods in the American Gods sense, I think you want to look at the people who have been the drivers of the change, the prime movers behind it. That's not going to be Asian laborers. It's ridiculous, and the reason it's xenophobic is because it assigns them responsibility for a process which they did not initiate and attempts to deflect from the movements of capital that are at the actual root of the problem.

The new gods are based on the belief behind them, not necessarily the actuality. Like it or not a huge chunk of the western and specifically American population blames the ordinary Chinese and Indian people for the process. That is what Mister World, the incarnation of globalization, represents to his believers and what he should look like. Ask pretty much any American and they'll tell you that Globalization is a Brown or Chinese person coming for their jerbs and stealing their culture. It is belief and reality need not apply.

So then why did you start out stating it as if it was fact?

(Anonymous) 2017-06-10 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Because it is a fact that to enrich the average Chinese or Indian peasant, the average Western Citizen has to be de-enriched too. That is how globalization works. The poorest of the poor get a little richer, the middle get a whole fucking lot poorer, and the Billionaires of the rapidly developing world get a mother fucking bastard load richer.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-10 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
the billionaires of the developed world also get a motherfucking bastard load richer

all the billionaires get way richer actually

funny how that works

(Anonymous) 2017-06-10 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, our billionaires stay about the same. It is the guys from China or the House of Saud that inherit the world's wealth. Even Western Billionaires compete for the crumbs from their table. In the old days our billionaires got richer because we rolled in and took, and a lot of ordinary westerners got rich that way too, but we're not allowed to do that these days so it is crumbs from the table for all of us. Western billionaires just get bigger crumbs, and steal the crumbs from the average westerner instead of passing crumbs onto them.

Ok so you are just nuts then

(Anonymous) 2017-06-10 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
>billionaires

>ompete for the crumbs from their table

I laughed so hard I fell off a chair. 10/10!
