I'll one-up you: I don't think anyone survived. I think Noct was caught in a shitty power play by the gods and they used him to pretty much vaporize all living things. Which is part of why Noct taking the throne doesn't feel heroic at all; it's brutal, it's sad, it's unfair.

Even more damning: they made such a point in the last chapter about how the survivors had all fled to Lestallum, packing it to the gills, and then they showed such a distinct shot of a completely empty city in the dawn. It really feels like a "cleansed by fire" sort of situation.

I could see that but can't completely believe it.
But then again, 10 years without sunlight shouldn't have had anything surviving anyway so...
