Yes. I like a good dark story when it is appropriately dark. Dark and edgy just for the sake of dark end edgy, though, rarely works particularly well. Not everything needs to be this dark. Some things can be happy.

Honestly, one thing I love so much about Tolkien is that even though his stuff can be very, very dark, there are still touches of levity and lightness. He understood the need for hope. And that's what I think a lot of modern dark media is missing: hope.
