Those poor animals.

There was a story in the news in the last couple of years, where something like six hundred animals had to be rescued from a damn ANIMAL SHELTER, all because the folks in charge were in over their heads and so many critters were emaciated and living in awful conditions.

It's great when people want to help a cause, but when it comes to running things, they should definitely leave it to those who know what the hell they're doing.

Yeah, I used to volunteer for an animal rescue (only don't currently because I'm halfway around the world so I just support them on FB :) ) and the owner of the rescue gave this presentation about how to start up a rescue but one of the biggest takeaways from it is that you HAVE TO RUN IT LIKE A BUSINESS. Which means, you know, make sure you actually have a funding stream/be prepared to pay for it yourself, especially when you're starting out because you can't just rely on people's individual donations all the time. And don't try to grow to quickly because you might have to support the animals you're rescuing for an indefinite period of time (especially the harder-to-place ones).

Some people just think they have to SAVE ALL TEH ANIMALS but they really don't have the means or funds or know-how to actually do right by them and then they end up having to be rescued all over again. :(

I live about 15 miles away from The Haven shelter. People offered their help and were refused.
