How people go on and on about how great no kill animal shelters are. I mean, yeah, it's nice that they don't kill animals but it's done by having a hard limit of how many animals (with good temperaments) they can accept. They're still indirectly killing the pets they can't accept. There just isn't enough resources for all the pets that need home and it bugs me that kill shelters get such a bad rap. Because honestly somebody unfortunately needs to be killing animals that would otherwise be messing up the local wildlife or struggling to survive.

I don't even work in a shelter.

I am always a bit weirded out when people say "I'm going to adopt an animal from my local no-kill shelter." It strikes me that the animals are better off being adopted from a place where they might die if no one takes them home--and that making a donation to the no-kill shelter, and then adopting an animal from the other place, might be a better course of action.
