Wait - really? "Coming out as allies" is a thing?

I consider myself an ally, but I know being one is not the same thing as coming out as LGBT and possibly being fired, disowned, evicted, or worse...

I don't know. There was a post on tumblr that was trying to make it a thing and my friend liked it (someone I've known since I was 13, for the record, not just like a mutual on tumblr or something).

I wasn't even making a point about how allies don't face the same problems as LGBTQ people. I just think of allyship as something you do rather than something you are. But she didn't really give me much of a chance to explain that before getting offended by my rejection of the post.
