I get what you mean. There are exceptions, but for the most part the more an author shills their favorite character (a la Wesley Crusher), the more likely I am to hate that character. Admittedly, part of this may be due to my contrarian nature balking at the very idea that I should like this character just because the author says so, but more often than not the character in question is just plain unlikable to begin with.

Also, that image was expertly chosen. Ain't no contrary stubbornness like dachshund contrary stubbornness.
