I agree, and I'm pretty sure the "muh" thing started with rednecks ("git outta muh c'untry" springs to mind especially), but I'm sure it's been coopted the same way Pepe the frog has been.

I mean, it's a 3-letter word that's closely related to a version of a common English word. It probably has more than one origin. The sense in which I'm familiar with it is in a 4channy, video game sense. In that context, I believe that it comes from a racist caricature of black people. I think that's the most important context for Internet usage. But I'm sure there's plenty of other contexts it's used in.
