In response to these other comments, call back if you don't hear something. Take some extra initiative for fucks sake. Then you wouldn't be comforting yourself with the idea that this pessimism isn't an issue with you it rather ~realism~.

You can do all of that but no amount of hustling or positive energy is going to change the basic structural reality for Chrissake. Sometimes things are the way they are for reasons other than laziness. There's not actually a magical spell you can cast for everything to go well.

The better solution is that, instead of applying for one job and counting on getting it, you apply for 20 and one of them comes through. But there is just no actual way to guarantee that a company is going to want to pursue hiring you, let alone actually make the decision to hire you. It is fundamentally outside of your power.
