VLR >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The other games, imo.
so sorry anon I don't agree with your secret

To each his own, and VLR was pretty good but I hate how the fandom seems to think it's the best game in the series when it could have stood a bit of editing. The amount of times I had to slog through Sigma's 'Why me??' monologue just made me want to throw my 3DS to the ground.

I wish it stopped with the first game too. It felt like with the second and third games, they just got worse and worse. The second broke things and the third tried to fix it with bubble gum and scotch tape.

The story from the first was most solid, and also had puzzles that integrated with the story. The second game smoothed out some of the gameplay bumps, but the story was less tight (and forget about the ending). Third game solidly went off the rails, and is the lowest quality on all fronts: bad art style, incohesive mess of a story, limited number of puzzles, and not doing right at all by existing characters.

But hey, I love me a game with puzzles and story. Still glad all three came out.

I agree. The first game was great. I didn't even finish the second one.

I feel better because I never finished the second one either. I may go back someday and finish it but I think 999 will always be my real love.

Your loss. I haven't played the third one yet but the second one was great, I loved the improved game system.

that overly long map animation was an improvement?

The flowchart. Not having to repeat every route from the very beginning was a godsend.

I haven't played the second or third, but I can't imagine them being better than 999, so I support you on principle. >_>
