Maybe OP's definition of "jerk" isn't "anyone who holds any opinion at all that OP disagrees with." Maybe they mean people who in general hold more opinions that OP disagrees with than ones OP agrees with (or can respect despite disagreement), or that they consistently act like jerks regardless of opinions.

I guess it's easier to argue with someone if you try to turn their opinion into some extreme, black-and-white thing, by implying that they consider anyone they disagree with on anything at all to be a jerk.

Well, the definition OP gave was "Older male comedian" and I'm suggesting that maybe not avoid a whole group of successful comedians because they might be jerks is not the best way to have fun.

The specific definition they gave is "male British comedians over 45"

Whether that makes a difference or not, I couldn't say.
