I'll grant you that he had a soft spot for Peter. We see that much in the first film, even. But the devoted father thing sort of came out of left field for me. Whatever fondness he has for Peter in the first film didn't stop him from being the badass captain of a vicious pirate crew, and I thought it was kind of weird that he seemed to be falling apart over it in the second one.

Not saying that he and Peter don't have SOME kind of familial bond. Peter wouldn't have had any other option for a father figure, and Yondu was clearly soft enough on the kid to keep him alive all those years. But I'm with the anon below: Yondu was a better father to Peter than Ego was...but that's an awfully low bar to clear.

Oh, I don't think Yondu was meant to look like a great father by any means. He's absolutely flawed... but the families in GotG are complicated as hell.
